The Arrandoon Story
Arrandoon Highland Cattle is home to a stud of some 50 Highland Cattle. Nestled in the foothills of the Jeeralang and Strzelecki Ranges in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria the cattle are Pasture fed and are sold mainly to small farmers and for private consumption.
The Beef tastes like real beef should, and is favoured by those who love good eating. Being a bit smaller and slower growing than modern Beef Cattle, this breed is not part of mainstream Beef Production in Australia. Lean and low in cholestrol the marbled Beef contains essential and healthy fatty acids and dissolves in the cooking, adding to the
meat's succulence.
Highland Cattle (because of their personalities, wonderful features, looks and very docile natures) enhance and are a favourable addition to any small property or holding. To know a Highland is a rewarding experience.
Visitors are welcome to Arrandoon so please contact us by Email or Phone and we will be pleased to greet you. At Arrandoon Highland Cattle we breed only cattle registered with the Australian Highland Cattle Society.

History
Highland Cattle are an old breed known to have grazed the rugged Scottish landscape since the sixth century. It is still a matter of debate as to whether they were an origin of Scotland or imported from Scandinavia perhaps with the Vikings when they invaded Great Britain.
The cattle are believed to have migrated from the Far East and Mongolia to the region of the Black Sea and have been collectively known as the European Ox. The evolving breed migrated slowly west and north to the Baltic shores approximately 6000 years ago. From there emigration to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland was a very small step. It is possible that the Scando - Celt may have released the breed in the Highlands of Scotland in an effort to keep their own herd numbers under control.
